• Provide a calming presence by remaining seated in a chair near your child’s crib or bed and gradually moving farther away each night until you’re out the door. If you are concerned about your child experiencing separation anxiety, your child has never fallen asleep without you being nearby, you’re transitioning your baby to a crib or her own room and don’t want her to be alone, or you have a toddler who insists on having you in the room while she falls asleep, this method enables you to be close by while helping your child learn how to fall asleep on her own.

  • Give your baby the freedom to learn how to self-soothe and fall asleep on her own by stepping away for increasing amounts of time each night and returning at specific intervals, as needed, to comfort and console her. This extremely effective approach, also known as “controlled crying,” is the most popular method used by Dream Baby Sleep® clients.

  • Help your baby learn to soothe herself to sleep while you provide loving direction every step of the way—picking her up as soon as she starts crying, calming her, and placing her back in the crib, drowsy but awake. If you have a very low tolerance for hearing your baby cry, or are transitioning away from co-sleeping or rocking, feeding or bouncing your baby to sleep, this method offers a very hands-on, gradual approach.

  • Train your toddler who is walking and no longer in a crib to fall asleep independently and stay in bed all night long by consistently and silently guiding her back to her sleep space when she leaves it. This method is effective if your child gets out of her sleep space at bedtime, throughout the night, or early in the morning; has become used to coming into your bed during the night and you want her to stay in her own sleep space; or requires you to lie with her, hold her hand, or stay in her room until she falls asleep.
